DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 07/20: Loyal \nScripture \nJob 23:11 – “My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside.” \nThought for the Day \nLoyalty is more complicated than it seems on the surface. It can apply to a country\, an organization\, a school\, a church\, your unit\, or your patrol. On an individual basis\, loyalty describes an ideal bond held by two friends. You are probably familiar with the saying\, “I’ve got your back.” True and meaningful loyalty goes way beyond this. Covering for someone else’s mistakes or wrongdoing\, even if he or she is a good friend is not loyalty. Loyalty is better expressed by the saying\, “I’ll be there for you.” Mistakes have consequences\, but a loyal friend is there to help walk their friend through those consequences. A loyal friend is one you could call at 2:30 in the morning to help you work something out or just talk through a serious problem. A loyal friend will not abandon his or her friend in times of trouble and will give them the benefit of the doubt when there is conflict. \nLoyalty is a two-way street\, and it won’t always be easy. In today’s Scripture passage\, Job is explaining to his snarky friends\, Eliphaz\, Bildad and Zophar that he remained loyal to God despite a lot of bad things that had happened to him. His friends claimed God did those things because Job had sinned and had not confessed his sin to God. Despite his confusion over what had happened (and a lot\, had happened to poor Job) Job’s loyalty to God never wavered. He “held fast to God’s path\, kept His way and not turned aside.” Job\, by faith\, knew God would never leave\, nor forsake him. Job’s faith told him though there would always be trouble in the world\, God would loyally go in and through the trouble with him. God was in the lion’s den with Daniel. God was in the fiery furnace with Shadrach\, Meshach\, and Abednego. God went through the valley of the shadow of death with David. Loyalty will make demands on you\, but the measure of your loyalty will be how well you meet those demands to walk alongside your friend. \nQuestions for Discussion \n\n“Social media” was promoted as a tool to bring people together\, but people today have fewer genuinely close and loyal friends than at any time in our recent history. Who can you count among your closest and most loyal friends?\nHow do you demonstrate your loyalty to Scouting in your school and/or social context?\n\nPrayer \nGood and gracious God\, teach me\, I pray\, to be a loyal friend. Allow me to be the one who others can count on in good times and in bad. Use me to inspire loyalty in others. A Scout is loyal. Amen.

Regis has been an educational bird from the Three River Avian Center in Brooks\, WV for over ten years. The Three River Avian Center is a wildlife refuge center dedicated to conserving West Virginia’s wild birds and to educating and involving the public in ecosystem stewardship.\n\nHe enjoys interacting with visitors and he will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center Action Point each of the program days in the mornings from 8:30 to noon every day except Sunday\, July 23rd.  Come and get your picture with a real Bald Eagle for your social media page.

Historically\, when Scouts go off to college\, military careers\, and various other occupations\, many never return to the Scouting program…or when they do\, it’s not until their own children enter the program. As such\, the BSA Alumni Association has developed an umbrella of Alumni Communities to serve as connection points to keep Scouts engaged. Whether it’s NESA\, the OA Alliance\, ATAS\, Health Care Professions\, Educators\, Firefighters\, High Adventure Base Staff Associations\, etc.\, be sure to stop by and see what connections you find interesting.

DESCRIPTION:At this year’s National Jamboree\, the Alumni Adventure Complex will be offering leather branding to any and all Jamboree participants\, staff\, and visitors who wish to participate. Our branding expert will be operating two\, Liquid Propane (LP) forges\, and assisting patrons will the physical branding of leather items (i.e.\, belts\, boots\, etc.). There will be a variety of brands to choose from\, and most will measure 1.5” inch x 1.5” inch in size. Available brands include those from each of the four BSA High Adventure Bases\, NESA\, BSA Alumni\, and the OA Alliance. Safety is of paramount importance to all of us\, and will be strictly enforced. So\, be sure to stop by and try out your branding skills at the Alumni Adventure Complex.

DESCRIPTION:We are so very pleased to have our NESA Master Woodcarver Jim Schmitz return as an artist in residence during the 2023 National Scout Jamboree.\n\nJim Schmitz from Parsons\, Kansas is an extremely talented artisan who will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center in Action Point for his third onsite artistic creation.\n\nHis first creations\, Scout Poles that were created in 2013 and 2017 will be on display in front of the Exhibits. Scouts\, Scouters\, and visitors alike will have an opportunity to participate in creating the next work art – an Eagle Scout Tableau.  This activity is open throughout the Jamboree all day except Sunday\, July 23rd.

DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Navy will showcase the Nimitz\, a mobile\, state-of the-art virtual reality experience that simulates an actual high-speed Navy SEAL mission. \nThe Nimitz is housed within an unfolding 18-wheeler that contains stations setup with Oculus Rift headset and SubPacs that boy scouts will be able to demo and replicate the experience of piloting a high-speed Navy Special Warfare Combatant Craft. Using a cutting-edge steering wheel and throttle system\, boy scouts will receive a debrief session and performance grade after completing the Nimitz VR experience. \nIn addition to the virtual reality experience\, current Navy officers will be on site to distribute Honor\, Courage\, Commitment\, the Navy’s Core Values\, pins and patches to scout who visit the Nimitz. The U.S. Navy will have the Nimitz virtual reality experience available for scouts during the Jamboree starting Wednesday\, July 19 to Wednesday July 26\, 2023.
