DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 07/21: Helpful \nScripture \nPsalm 54:4 – “Behold\, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” \nThought for the Day \nThere is no better illustration of this point of the Scout Law than our own Scout Slogan; “Do a good turn daily.” You may be starting your day with these devotions. If so\, be thinking even now. how you can be helpful to your tentmate\, the Scouts in your unit and other Scouts and Scouters you meet throughout the day. If you are closing your day with these devotions\, examine your day. Where were you helpful? Did you miss an opportunity to help another Scout or Scouter? And who was there to be helpful for you? The last question can never be realistically answered\, “no one.” A person of faith is never alone. Even on our toughest days\, when it seems like a helping hand is nowhere to be found\, the psalmist reminds us of the constant\, helpful presence of God. \nDavid was on the run from King Saul who was trying to kill him and was hiding in a place called\, Ziph. Far from helpful\, some of the residents leaked the information that David was hiding among them to Saul. David sought help from the place he knew he could count on as he had many times before – Almighty God. He confidently identifies his total trust in God as his helper and supporter. Betrayal by the people of Ziph placed David in great danger\, but he remained sure that God was on his side and would take his part in this situation. God would sustain him and bear him up and out of the danger. Despite any personal inconvenience it may pose\, a Scout should always strive to be as helpful as possible. It is the Scout who can and should be relied upon when the going gets tough. God is our ever-present help in times of trouble. If this is an attribute of God\, we ought to consider it an honor to emulate God and be helpful ourselves. \nQuestions for Discussion \n\nThink about the day ahead. Can you identify in advance any ways you can be helpful above and beyond normal expectations?\nHow do you feel when you get help from an unexpected source? Do you think you would enjoy making others feel that same way?\n\nPrayer \nGod of all help; use me today to be a source of help. Let me be the way to lighten someone’s burden and make their day more pleasant\, even memorable. May I be always reminded that as You help me every day\, I honor You by helping others. A Scout is helpful. Amen.

DESCRIPTION:Alumni Communities: (Affiliate Groups\, Affinity Groups\, and BSA Partners) \nThe BSA Alumni Association has developed its Alumni Relations Exhibit specifically to help dispel the notion that Scouting ends at 18 years of age. Historically\, when Scouts go off to college\, military careers\, and various other occupations\, many never return to the Scouting program…or when they do\, it’s not until their own children enter the program. As such\, the BSA Alumni Association has developed an umbrella of Alumni Communities to serve as connection points to keep Scouts engaged. DESCRIPTION:At this year’s National Jamboree\, the Alumni Adventure Complex will be offering leather branding to any and all Jamboree participants\, staff\, and visitors who wish to participate. Our branding expert will be operating two\, Liquid Propane (LP) forges\, and assisting patrons will the physical branding of leather items (i.e.\, belts\, boots\, etc.). There will be a variety of brands to choose from\, and most will measure 1.5” inch x 1.5” inch in size. Available brands include those from each of the four BSA High Adventure Bases\, NESA\, BSA Alumni\, and the OA Alliance. Safety is of paramount importance to all of us\, and will be strictly enforced. So\, be sure to stop by and try out your branding skills at the Alumni Adventure Complex.

DESCRIPTION:We are so very pleased to have our NESA Master Woodcarver Jim Schmitz return as an artist in residence during the 2023 National Scout Jamboree.\n\nJim Schmitz from Parsons\, Kansas is an extremely talented artisan who will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center in Action Point for his third onsite artistic creation.\n\nHis first creations\, Scout Poles that were created in 2013 and 2017 will be on display in front of the Exhibits. Scouts\, Scouters\, and visitors alike will have an opportunity to participate in creating the next work art – an Eagle Scout Tableau.  This activity is open throughout the Jamboree all day except Sunday\, July 23rd.
