DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 07/22: Friendly \nScripture \nProverbs 17:17 – “A friend loves at all times\, and a brother is born for adversity.” \nThought for the Day \nLaughably misnamed\, “social media” is about as social as staying home to rearrange your sock drawer. Conceived as a way to connect people\, it has been shown that people today have fewer truly close friends than before social media became the norm. A “friend” is more than a click\, a like or hashtag. King Solomon\, in all his wisdom\, hit the nail on the head. A friend is a real live person you can depend on\, even (especially) when things are not going so well. It is also hugely important to remember a true friend is not necessarily your own personal “Get out of Jail Free” card either. It takes a dedicated and true friend to tell us when we need to consider the possibility that what we may be doing is not so friendly to others. This kind of friend is the friend King Solomon\, the biblical king best known for his wisdom\, calls “a brother (or sister) born for adversity.” The name Solomon means “peace” in Hebrew. Having this kind of friend can indeed bring about a feeling of great peace. \nThe worldwide Scouting movement is an international band of young people who have pledged friendship to one another. It is incredible to think that you have friends all over the planet\, but you do. This is a gift you will come to appreciate more and more in the environment of a Jamboree in an amazing place like the Summit. A Jamboree is a perfect opportunity to expand your world by making friends with Scouts of other social\, cultural\, and religious backgrounds. It is in a place like this we can come to see how much more we have in common than divides us. This is the time and place to be intentional about demonstrating friendship with the Scouts and Scouters in your unit\, subcamp and throughout the reservation. The day’s activities will be more fun\, run more smoothly and will build the foundation for friendships that can last a lifetime. If you don’t have a friend like King Solomon describes\, “one who loves at all times and is a brother (or sister) born for adversity\,” you really need to find and make one. If you do\, count your blessings\, and then try to find some more. \nQuestions for Discussion \n\nCan you name a “best friend”? How about three close friends?\nHow does a true friend interpret the phrase\, “I’ve got your back”?\n\nPrayer \nDear God\, my friend and guide; teach me to be a true friend. Always lead me on the path to love\, and to be a brother or sister born for adversity who can be counted on when my friends really need me. A Scout is friendly. Amen.

Regis has been an educational bird from the Three River Avian Center in Brooks\, WV for over ten years. The Three River Avian Center is a wildlife refuge center dedicated to conserving West Virginia’s wild birds and to educating and involving the public in ecosystem stewardship.\n\nHe enjoys interacting with visitors and he will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center Action Point each of the program days in the mornings from 8:30 to noon every day except Sunday\, July 23rd.  Come and get your picture with a real Bald Eagle for your social media page.

DESCRIPTION:At this year’s National Jamboree\, the Alumni Adventure Complex will be offering leather branding to any and all Jamboree participants\, staff\, and visitors who wish to participate. Our branding expert will be operating two\, Liquid Propane (LP) forges\, and assisting patrons will the physical branding of leather items (i.e.\, belts\, boots\, etc.). There will be a variety of brands to choose from\, and most will measure 1.5” inch x 1.5” inch in size. Available brands include those from each of the four BSA High Adventure Bases\, NESA\, BSA Alumni\, and the OA Alliance. DESCRIPTION:We are so very pleased to have our NESA Master Woodcarver Jim Schmitz return as an artist in residence during the 2023 National Scout Jamboree.\n\nJim Schmitz from Parsons\, Kansas is an extremely talented artisan who will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center in Action Point for his third onsite artistic creation.\n\nHis first creations\, Scout Poles that were created in 2013 and 2017 will be on display in front of the Exhibits. Scouts\, Scouters\, and visitors alike will have an opportunity to participate in creating the next work art – an Eagle Scout Tableau.  This activity is open throughout the Jamboree all day except Sunday\, July 23rd.

DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Navy will showcase the Nimitz\, a mobile\, state-of the-art virtual reality experience that simulates an actual high-speed Navy SEAL mission. \nThe Nimitz is housed within an unfolding 18-wheeler that contains stations setup with Oculus Rift headset and SubPacs that boy scouts will be able to demo and replicate the experience of piloting a high-speed Navy Special Warfare Combatant Craft. Using a cutting-edge steering wheel and throttle system\, boy scouts will receive a debrief session and performance grade after completing the Nimitz VR experience. \nIn addition to the virtual reality experience\, current Navy officers will be on site to distribute Honor\, Courage\, Commitment\, the Navy’s Core Values\, pins and patches to scout who visit the Nimitz. The U.S. Navy will have the Nimitz virtual reality experience available for scouts during the Jamboree starting Wednesday\, July 19 to Wednesday July 26\, 2023.
