DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Navy will showcase the Nimitz\, a mobile\, state-of the-art virtual reality experience that simulates an actual high-speed Navy SEAL mission. \nThe Nimitz is housed within an unfolding 18-wheeler that contains stations setup with Oculus Rift headset and SubPacs that boy scouts will be able to demo and replicate the experience of piloting a high-speed Navy Special Warfare Combatant Craft. Using a cutting-edge steering wheel and throttle system\, boy scouts will receive a debrief session and performance grade after completing the Nimitz VR experience. \nIn addition to the virtual reality experience\, current Navy officers will be on site to distribute Honor\, Courage\, Commitment\, the Navy’s Core Values\, pins and patches to scout who visit the Nimitz. The U.S. Navy will have the Nimitz virtual reality experience available for scouts during the Jamboree starting Wednesday\, July 19 to Wednesday July 26\, 2023.

DESCRIPTION:We are so very pleased to have our NESA Master Woodcarver Jim Schmitz return as an artist in residence during the 2023 National Scout Jamboree.\n\nJim Schmitz from Parsons\, Kansas is an extremely talented artisan who will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center in Action Point for his third onsite artistic creation.\n\nHis first creations\, Scout Poles that were created in 2013 and 2017 will be on display in front of the Exhibits. Scouts\, Scouters\, and visitors alike will have an opportunity to participate in creating the next work art – an Eagle Scout Tableau.  This activity is open throughout the Jamboree all day except Sunday\, July 23rd.

DESCRIPTION:At this year’s National Jamboree\, the Alumni Adventure Complex will be offering leather branding to any and all Jamboree participants\, staff\, and visitors who wish to participate. Our branding expert will be operating two\, Liquid Propane (LP) forges\, and assisting patrons will the physical branding of leather items (i.e.\, belts\, boots\, etc.). There will be a variety of brands to choose from\, and most will measure 1.5” inch x 1.5” inch in size. Available brands include those from each of the four BSA High Adventure Bases\, NESA\, BSA Alumni\, and the OA Alliance. He was so very popular at the 2013 and 2017 National Scout Jamborees we have invited him back.\n\nRegis is a 15-year-old American Bald Eagle. Regis has been an educational bird from the Three River Avian Center in Brooks\, WV for over ten years. The Three River Avian Center is a wildlife refuge center dedicated to conserving West Virginia’s wild birds and to educating and involving the public in ecosystem stewardship.\n\nHe enjoys interacting with visitors and he will be at the NESA Exhibit in the Scott Summit Center Action Point each of the program days in the mornings from 8:30 to noon every day except Sunday\, July 23rd.  Come and get your picture with a real Bald Eagle for your social media page.

What we are inside has more lasting impact on our emotional state than do our circumstances. Cheerful people hold up under difficult circumstances better than others because of inner strength. That cheerfulness is the product of a joy inside of us that we have consciously made the decision to grab and hold on to. \nIt was a cold and rainy night. Your tent leaked and your gear is wet. The weather for today looks bleak and breakfast is limited to cereal with reconstituted powdered milk. Cheerful? Yes! A Scout is cheerful. There is nothing to be done about the events of the previous night and you cannot change the weather. Unless you can personally lay some eggs\, cold cereal it is. What you can change\, or control is howyou will face these challenges. You have been given the gifts of Scouting\, being in the great outdoors at the Summit and a new day in which to enjoy it all. Remembering this should bring joy\, and as Scripture tells us\, “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face.” When you are cheerful\, it gives those around you a lift. People of faith have a mission to others—to add to their cheer. This cannot be done unless we first learn the lesson of cheerfulness ourselves. We cannot teach what we do not know. We cannot give what we do not have. Everyone has an atmosphere\, be it cheerful or depressing\, and we are responsible for this atmosphere. If you have trained yourself to be unhappy\, you can make others about you less happy. \nHave you ever wondered why being cheerful is part of the Scout Law? Isn’t being cheerful just part of someone’s nature — or not? How is it like trustworthiness\, loyalty\, or kindness? Well\, for Scouts\, cheerfulness is a duty. No day should pass without putting a little cheer into someone’s heart\, making their path a little smoother. This is easier if we train ourselves to see the good things\, our blessings in life. We need to look at life\, not to find misery\, but to find cheer. Another secret of cheerfulness is in the way we relate to the people around us. The privilege of helping and being a friend brings cheerfulness\, and a Scout with a cheerful spirit is a blessing wherever he or she goes\, carrying gladness\, lightening the load of others\, and making them cheerful.
