Hometown Celebration: Sharing the Spirit of Your Hometown at the Jamboree

Hometown Celebration is a special event at the Jamboree where units come together to share elements of their hometown cultures, heritages, and histories. During Hometown Celebration, Scouts will have the opportunity to visit different unit campsites and experience the creativity and diversity of the scouting community. The aim is to promote curiosity, inclusion, and belonging among Scouts and create a memorable experience for everyone involved.

All units are expected to participate as hosts and participants in the Hometown Celebration. This is a chance to showcase what makes your council’s hometowns special and distinctive. Whether it’s telling stories, performing skits, sharing hometown foods or crafts, or organizing games that highlight your community, the possibilities are endless! Scouts will have the chance to visit units in various campsites, subcamps, and basecamps, providing a unique opportunity to explore different aspects of Scouting culture.

Hometown Celebration will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 23. Units can set up in the morning and should be cleaned up in time for their evening meal. Creativity is encouraged in planning your unit’s offering, while keeping the Scout Oath & Law and the Guide to Safe Scouting in mind. Units should bring necessary materials and plan for at least 1,000 visitors. It is also important to ensure proper food handling and distribution if offering food, following the guidelines provided by the Jamboree.

For additional assistance, the Hometown Celebration team is available to answer questions, provide creative inspiration, and offer logistical support. They can be reached at [email protected]. Remember to plan ahead, utilize the resources available, and bring the essence of your hometown to life at #NatJamboree23.
