Weather at The Summit

The Summit Bechtel Reserve is located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, a region known for its beautiful natural scenery and diverse weather patterns. When attending the National Jamboree at The Summit, it’s important to be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions.

During the summer months, the weather at The Summit can be quite warm and humid. Temperatures can range from the mid-70s to the mid-90s, with occasional thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. It’s important to dress appropriately for the heat, wearing light-colored and lightweight clothing that allows for proper ventilation. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also recommended to protect against the sun. In the evenings, temperatures can drop significantly once the sun fades away for the day. It’s important to bring a jacket or sweatshirt.

When packing your day pack, it’s important to include a few essentials that will help you stay comfortable and prepared for any weather conditions. These essentials might include a rain jacket or poncho, a water bottle, and a small first aid kit. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are a must to protect yourself from sunburns. Tossing an extra pair of socks and an extra shirt into your bag will also come in handy after a morning of walking around The Summit. And of course, don’t forget patches to trade with other Scouts.

It’s also important to remember to stay hydrated throughout the day, especially during hot and humid weather conditions. Be sure to drink plenty of water, and avoid sugary drinks that can dehydrate you. Water refill stations are all around The Summit, bring your bottle and fill up throughout the day!

By being prepared for a wide range of weather conditions, you can ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience at the National Jamboree. So pack accordingly, dress appropriately, and get ready to experience the natural beauty and adventure of The Summit Bechtel Reserve.
